OSHA’s “Weekend Work” initiative will be in effect through the fall of 2021. As a part of this initiative, OSHA plans to conduct random weekend site inspections for certain counties in Colorado.
Colorado’s growth has sparked an increased demand for construction. As a result, many companies are choosing to work on weekends to keep up. With the increased demand also comes increased exposure for workers, including falls, trenching, and other excavation hazards. OSHA typically does not perform weekend inspections, but the increased construction exposures have led to the new initiative.
Over the past two years in Colorado, there have been six work-related fatal falls. There have also been over a dozen excavation collapses and trenching accidents which have led to the death of three workers.
OSHA’s “Weekend Work” initiative will affect Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, El Paso, Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Larimer, and Weld counties.
