OSHA began targeted/programmed inspections of certain industries on March 26, 2021. This NEP created a new enforcement agenda for targeted employers in industries that have an increased potential for employee exposure to COVID-19.
The NEP is temporary (could be in place up to one year) but does provide a formal structure for OSHA to conduct workplace inspections related to COVID-19. The highest priority for inspections will be the healthcare industry, including ambulance services, continuing care retirement facilities, and assisted living facilities. Outside of healthcare, the higher priority industries are grocery stores, general warehousing and storage facilities, restaurants, department stores, meat processing, and correctional institutions. Second tier industries include agriculture, construction, food and beverage manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, paper and wood manufacturing and plastics and rubber manufacturing.
If you have questions on this NEP and/or how to prepare for a potential inspection, please contact your Risk Control Advisor or Account Manager at 970.356.0123 for further assistance.
